Bartons Solicitors are proud inaugural winners of DASLS Law Firm of the Year (1-10 partners). Our entry focused on our commitment to law as a business, our effective management, training and first class customer care. Bartons has 6 directors and employs 57 staff, 90 of whom are women at our offices based in Plymouth, Kingsbridge, Totnes and Bristol. Over 70% of staff were born in Devon or Somerset and in 2015, 16 employees achieved more than 10 years’ employment at Bartons and another 7 achieved over 15 years.

Bartons was the first legal business in the South West of England to be accredited as a Living Wage Employer. Our firm specialises in residential conveyancing, private client, matrimonial law, maritime law, dispute resolution and commercial law and we have put great emphasis on improving education and training of all staff at all levels. All staff members have their own individual five-year plan to ensure they achieve their individual aims and ambitions and their training is tailored so that it also benefits and supports the overall business plan and vision.

Since March 2014, Bartons have invested around £100,000 with professional trainers and the whole firm has received extensive training in management, personal effectiveness as well as sales and marketing training. Bartons take great pride in supporting its local community through sponsorship of local organisations while staff members are encouraged to become board / committee members of local clubs and organisations.

Bartons take great pride in its customer care, and this is highlighted by many testimonials such as Nathan Jones of Foxtons, “In a climate of dwindling good solicitors in the property world Bartons and all their employees shine. Bartons as a company and individuals are contactable, responsive and user friendly. In addition to the South African market specifically, they are exceptional. Together, over the years, we have successfully completed on over 200 units to South Africans Nationals and with what we have in our pipeline this excellent relationship is only set to grow in 2016 and beyond”

Bartons Solicitors have been accredited by STEP, Resolution, Chambers, The Law Society Accredited Conveyancing Quality and Lee Hassall and Jo Pummery both feature in The Legal 500.

What did we think about the process?

Entering awards can be time consuming, however, we knew that we could meet all the criteria in the Law Firm of the Year (1 to 10 partners) category and had evidence to back up our entry. The process was very straight forward, the DASLS team were very helpful and the ability to upload our entry documents online also helped speed up the process.

Why did we enter the awards?

We thought it was valuable to seek recognition for all the efforts made by ALL of our colleagues towards the goals we had set ourselves, namely providing distinguished legal service to our clients.

What did we think about the Award Ceremony?

The Award Ceremony itself, held at Sandy Park in Exeter was a night to remember, with Joshua Rozenberg and the Royal Marines Band entertaining all, it was also a great opportunity to meet and network with our peers and thank our staff who took the time to complete the entry. Of course, the icing on the cake was our win!
